Subsea Cable
Designer
The Subsea Cable design project for Facebook was created to visualize the scale, complexity, and ambition behind global connectivity using a tactile, stop motion inspired approach. The intention was to make an invisible infrastructure feel physical and human by designing the visuals as if they were built from cut outs and torn pieces of paper. This handcrafted sensibility helped ground the technology in something approachable and relatable rather than purely technical.
The visual language combines layered paper textures, imperfect edges, and deliberate motion to suggest depth, distance, and flow beneath the surface. Movement is slightly staggered and intentional, echoing the feel of stop motion animation while guiding the viewer through how subsea cables connect continents and communities. By pairing this analog aesthetic with clear graphic storytelling, the project communicates Facebook’s global reach in a way that feels warm, thoughtful, and tangible.
